Dubai International is the 4th busiest airport in the world in terms of international passengers, Dubai International is connected to over 220 destinations across six continents through 150 scheduled airlines. It is the 4th busiest airport in terms of international freight volumes with 2.27 million tonnes recorded in 2010.
Dubai Airports rewrote global standards in aviation with the flawless launch of the Emirates-dedicated Terminal 3 in October 2008, widely acknowledged in the industry as the most successful launch of a terminal of its size. Terminal 3 has doubled Dubai International’s operational capacity to 60 million passengers per year, a figure that will increase to 75 million on completion Concourse 3, the world’s first A380-dedicated airside facility set to be completed by the end of 2012.
DUBAI WORLD CENTRAL – AL MAKTOUM INTERNATIONAL
Dubai’s airport of the future is at the heart of a major aviation development project just 40 kilometres away from Dubai International. The first phase of the project opened for cargo operations on June 27, 2010 with general aviation operations commencing in March 2011.
Phase 1 of the airport features one A380 capable runway, 64 remote stands, one cargo terminal with annual capacity for 250,000 tonnes of cargo and a passenger terminal building designed to accommodate five million passengers per year.
In the long term it will serve as a multi-modal logistics hub for 12 million tonnes of freight and a global gateway for the 150 million passengers per annum that are expected to pass through Dubai by 2030.
